Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM) is a public Ivy League research university founded on December 19th, 1949. For years it was a University of Humanistic studies, and it is the largest state university in Indonesia. Located in Yogyakarta, it provides a very strong cultural-historical background while offering its students dynamic lifestyle options. Currently set up as Socio-entrepreneurial University, UGM tries to accommodate many scientific interests. UGM’s goal is to be an excellent and innovative world class research university, imbued with Indonesia’s cultural values and based on Pancasila, Indonesia’s state ideology, dedicated to the interests of both the nation and humanity. UGM currently consists of 18 faculties, a graduate school, a vocational school, and 28 research centers. There are 68 undergraduate programs (S1), 23 diploma programs (D3), 104 Master’s programs (S2), and 43 Ph.D. programs (S3).
UGM’s Faculty of Geography has played an important role as one of the main hubs of CNRD since its establishment. It offers study programs at Bachelor’s Level (S1), study programs at Master Level (S2) and 2 study programs in Doctoral Level (S3). The faculty has crosscut environmental, social demographic, GIS, and regional development issues since 1950s. As the only geography faculty in Indonesia, it has seen a number of success stories from its alumni in various governmental, non-governmental and entrepreneurial fields. The faculty educates its students to not just understand theories or other hard skills, but also have a thorough understanding of practical applications and be highly appreciative of other valuable soft skills.
